Things to Consider in Boiler Rooms

For applications with natural gas, specifications for boiler rooms that the boilers will be placed in and the flue and installation characteristics are regulated by TSE standards and gas board regulations. Similarly, for applications with liquid fuel, specifications for boiler rooms, flue, and installation are specified by TSE standards. These rules must be observed to use the boiler in a safe and efficient manner. Boilers may only be placed in and connected to the installation in boiler rooms that meet the standards. Manufacturer and dealers are not responsible for operating problems that may arise due to improper boiler rooms and defects in the installation.

  • In case there are differences between the regulations and the recommendations in the operating manual of the product about the boiler room and installation connections, the standards and regulations prevail.
  • There should be no combustible, inflammable, and explosive materials near the boiler and these types of materials should not be stored in boiler rooms.
  • Boiler burner takes the air necessary for combustion from the environment. Therefore, the boiler room must be ventilated naturally through air inlet and outlet vent or by force. These vents must never be blocked during boiler operation.
  • Defective switches, power sockets, cables etc. in the boiler room that may cause short-circuits or arc must immediately be replaced.
  • The floor and the walls of the boiler room must be kept dry. The boiler and drainage must be connected to drain the water in the boiler when necessary.
  • A supply water line must be established near the boiler to supply water to the boiler and installation when necessary. Electrical installation, equipment, and especially the burner must be kept away from water drops.
  • The boiler room must be closed to prevent unauthorized entry.
  • However, a spare key must be stored to interfere the boiler or installation during emergency.
  • Heating boilers cannot be placed in living spaces. Boilers must only be placed in a special boiler room with proper ventilation.
  • Air vents must be open at all times and open directly to outdoor environment.

Top and bottom air vent sections are determined as follows.
  • Bottom Air Vent Section (dm2 ) = Capacity (kW) / 23
  • Top Air Vent Section (dm2 ) = Boiler Surface (m2) / 10
  • In addition, speed of the air that enters into the main burner on the boiler surface must not exceed 1,5 m/sec for 1 m of the boiler.
